Building Tomorrow's Child Advocates, Today
Every summer, Children's Law Center welcomes a group of talented law students who share a common purpose: making a difference in the lives of children.
Our Summer Legal Internship Program is more than a traditional internship. It is an immersive, hands-on experience that gives future attorneys the opportunity to work alongside Children's Law Center attorneys on active cases involving high-conflict custody disputes and domestic violence. Through meaningful mentorship and real-world experience, our interns gain a deeper understanding of child advocacy, the family court system, and the critical role attorneys play in protecting children's best interests.
CLC interns become valuable members of our legal team. Throughout the summer, they participate in legal research, case preparation, court observation, home and school visits, strategy discussions, and projects that directly support the representation of children.
Along the way, they gain exposure not only to Guardian ad Litem advocacy, but also to the broader family law system, learning from judges, attorneys, court personnel, community partners, and other professionals committed to serving children and families.
The internship benefits Children's Law Center as much as it benefits our interns. As our attorneys continue to serve an increasing number of children throughout Forsyth and Guilford Counties, interns provide meaningful support that expands our capacity to prepare cases, conduct research, organize information, and strengthen the quality of services we provide. Their contributions allow our attorneys to spend more time where it matters most, with children and families.
Most importantly, the internship helps cultivate the next generation of child advocates. We are proud to provide opportunities that inspire future attorneys to pursue careers dedicated to protecting children and strengthening families. This summer, we are excited to welcome four exceptional law students to Children's Law Center. We look forward to watching each of them grow professionally while helping us advance our mission of ensuring every child has a voice.

"I chose to intern with the Children's Law Center to gain hands-on experience in advocacy work, as well to contribute to their mission of giving children a voice in the legal system. While the legal work is incredibly impactful, what has defined my experience thus far is the culture. Everyone here has been so kind, patient, and welcoming, making it an ideal environment to learn, grow, and contribute in a meaningful way."

"Interning at CLC has been a great experience so far! I am passionate about children's wellbeing and their ability to thrive. I enjoy focusing on each child's unique needs to ensure their interests are not forgotten during a time of adult conflict. "

"I met Iris Sunshine, CLC’s Executive Director, at HPU during my professional pathways class and hearing her speak about advocating for the best interest of a child was truly inspirational. I jumped at the chance to intern with the CLC. I was able to support CLC Custody Staff Attorney Kathryn Corey through a 5.5 hour parent negotiation and we left with a signed custody order. Children First, Family Always!."
