Investing in the Next Generation of Child Advocates: Introducing Children's Law Center's Legal Fellowship Program
At Children's Law Center of Central North Carolina, our mission has always been about more than representing children in court; it is about creating lasting change for children, families, and our community. Today, we are excited to announce a new step in that mission with the launch of the Children's Law Center Legal Fellowship Program.
The fellowship is designed to cultivate the next generation of child advocates by providing recent law graduates with hands-on experience advocating for children in our flagship programs. Working alongside our experienced attorneys, fellows will gain practical courtroom experience while developing the skills necessary to become compassionate, effective champions for children.
The program benefits far more than the fellow. It expands Children's Law Center's capacity to serve vulnerable children, strengthens the pipeline of attorneys committed to child advocacy, and helps ensure that more children have someone dedicated solely to protecting their best interests.
We are especially proud to welcome Ashton Hopson as our inaugural Legal Fellow.
Ashton is no stranger to Children's Law Center. During law school, she served as an Elon Law Resident with our organization, where she demonstrated exceptional dedication to the children and families we serve. Her passion for advocacy, professionalism, and commitment to ensuring every child has a voice made her the ideal candidate to become the first participant in our fellowship program.
Beginning July 1st, Ashton will work closely with our Custody Advocacy Program attorneys, investigating cases, meeting with children and families, collaborating with community partners, and making recommendations to the court that prioritize each child's safety and well-being. She will also contribute to special initiatives that help Children's Law Center better understand and respond to the evolving needs of children across Central North Carolina.
"We're thrilled to welcome Ashton back to Children's Law Center," said Iris Sunshine, Executive Director. "She has already demonstrated a deep commitment to child advocacy, and we are excited to invest in her growth while expanding our ability to serve children who need an advocate."
The Legal Fellowship Program represents an investment in the future, not only for Children's Law Center, but for the children whose lives will be changed by dedicated advocates for years to come.
Please join us in welcoming Ashton to the Children's Law Center team.
Together, we are building stronger advocates, stronger families, and brighter futures for children.
