CLC Launches New Education Advocacy Partnership with Kilpatrick
Children’s Law Center is excited to announce a new partnership with longtime supporter Kilpatrick that will significantly expand our ability to help students and families navigate challenges in public education. Through this collaboration, CLC’s Education Advocacy Program (EAP) is increasing its capacity to serve families.
Every chld deserves access to a quality public education, and in fact, every child is afforded a free and appropriate education by law. But navigating the school system can be especially challenging for families whose children have unique learning needs or face barriers to receiving appropriate services. Through EAP, CLC helps families understand their rights under state and federal education laws, address concerns involving special education services and accommodations, and navigate school discipline issues.
Recently, several Kilpatrick attorneys and staff members completed specialized education law training in partnership with Jennifer Story, Supervising Attorney at the Richardson Family Education Equity Clinic at Campbell University’s Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law. This training prepares volunteers to assist CLC in providing advice and guidance to families facing educational challenges, significantly increasing the number of students we can help.
With this expanded team of trained volunteers, CLC is ready and available to help families understand their children’s educational rights and access the services they need.
Building on 20 Years
This new initiative builds on a longstanding relationship between CLC and Kilpatrick. More than 20 years ago, the firm played an instrumental role in bringing CLC’s Custody Advocacy Program (CAP) to fruition. Since then, Kilpatrick attorneys and staff have remained key partners in the program, contributing their time and expertise to support children involved in domestic violence protective order and high-conflict custody proceedings.
Now, Kilpatrick is bringing that same commitment to our Education Advocacy Program, helping CLC reach more children and families while strengthening an already meaningful partnership.
We are grateful to Kilpatrick, Jennifer Story, and the attorneys and staff who have embraced this opportunity to serve our community.
CLC’s Education Advocacy Program is here to help. We encourage families, educators, and community partners who know a student facing challenges in public education to contact Children’s Law Center to learn more about the guidance and resources available through EAP.
Together, we are helping more children access the educational opportunities and support they deserve.
