Celebrating 20 Years of Advocacy, Impact, and Hope

This year, Children’s Law Center of Central North Carolina proudly celebrated 20 years of giving children a voice during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Since 2005, CLC has stood beside thousands of children facing domestic violence, high-conflict custody disputes, and instability – and recently, advocating for their rights in public education. In 2025, we dedicated a full year to honoring that legacy and raising awareness about the importance of child-centered advocacy in our community.

A Yearlong Celebration – Throughout the year, we shared stories of resilience, highlighted the work of our Custody Advocacy and Education Advocacy programs. We have engaged partners, volunteers, and supporters in conversations about children’s safety and wellbeing. This anniversary campaign was not only a celebration of the past, it was a moment to recognize the collective commitment that has strengthened CLC over two decades.

A Night to Remember – On October 24th, our yearlong celebration culminated at our 20th Anniversary Celebration at Wake Forest Biotech Place. Surrounded by longtime supporters, volunteers, and community partners, we honored both the history and the impact of our mission.

The evening featured heartfelt remarks from CLC founders Penny Spry and Amy Kuhlman, whose vision and determination built the foundation on which CLC stands today. Their reflections on the early years and the children whose lives have been changed were deeply moving.

We were also inspired by a young man who courageously shared his personal story. His journey, filled with resilience, hope, and a bright future, captured the heart of our mission and reminded everyone that behind every case is a child who deserves safety, stability, and a strong voice in their corner.

Honoring the Past, Looking to the Future – This year gave us the opportunity to: Celebrate the accomplishments of the past 20 years, reflect on where we are today, and focus on the children we will serve in the next 20 years. While much has changed over two decades, our mission remains unwavering. Children still need strong voices in courtrooms, compassionate advocates in schools, and a community committed to lifting them up.
